– I saw The Hunger Games today! Loved it, but I thought I would since I devoured (haha) the books in less than a week. I must say my enjoyment of the series was highly unprecedented – I don't usually read fiction, much less "young adult" fiction, but these captivated me. Definitely get reading if you haven't already!
– Check out some examples of beautiful pre-Columbian art from the Bowers Museum over at The Curated Object.
– But by far the most exciting beauty news of the week is MAC's upcoming collection to kick off summer, Hey Sailor. I know a certain Museum Advisory Committee member who is extremely fascinated by it!
Sailor Babo likes the pretty sailor girl and will no doubt want one of the makeup bags to take with him for his voyages on the high seas. ๐
What was catching your fancy this week?
Heeee! I bought the mini version of this fella a while ago but I was still looking for the rarer, full-size version. Lo and behold he popped up on Ebay so I adopted him right away.
We had lots of cookies to welcome him, fortunately. Usually we try not to keep so many in the house despite the Babos' cookie obsession, but this week we had a lot.
I think he'll be very happy here! Oh, and in honor of his homecoming my husband made this for him (inspired by the Oreo cookie cameos I posted about last week):
Needless to say, Oreo cookie babo didn't last too long.
As for Ice Lodge Babo, I haven't decided what his role will be at the Museum but I'll think of something soon. ๐
This week's links. ๐
– Great write-up of one of the Curator's favorite shows over at FemPop. If you haven't watched Peep Show yet you are seriously missing out!
– I like Oreos but they are not my favorite cookie. Nevertheless I was pleased to see them celebrating their 100-year anniversary. There are also some amazing Oreo cookie cameos – yes, someone actually sculpts the cream into cameo silhouettes.
– Speaking of cookies, some Museum staff members had a little cookie-baking adventure. You can see it all at Postcards from Sailor Babo (a.k.a. the cutest blog ever!)
Yay! L. Michelle, please email me your address ASAP so I can send your prize this weekend!
Uh-oh…
Babo, no! That’s not a cookie!!
Okay, I managed to get it from him before he did any damage. ๐
A big thanks to everyone who entered the first Makeup Museum giveaway. It will certainly not be its last so keep visiting!
It's been a busy post-Thanksgiving week. Now that the fall exhibition is done I'm moving on to the holiday/winter exhibition. I'm still trying to keep up with all the blogs I follow in Google Reader so with that, here are some links from the week.
– I've never read the books, but I want this Girl with the Dragon Tattoo collection for H & M. Looks pretty badass.
– Two of my favorite things – lipstick and heels – together at last.
This is a very intriguing idea – a pop-up museum! I wonder how I could execute that.
Given the baking rampage I've been on, the husband surprised me with the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook. I can't wait to try my hand at crack pie! However, the other day I came home to this:
He was showing the other Babsters how he's going to make these:
Looks like I'm going to have to fight him to give me back the book! And in case you were wondering, yes, the little Babos are wearing their ugly Christmas sweaters:
'Tis the season!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I was a little bummed as I wasn't spending it at my parents' house (my dad makes the most amazing Thanksgiving feast ever!) but it was still quite nice. While I'm recovering from a food coma, here are some things from the week.
– British Beauty Blogger showcases these adorable shell lip balms.
- Today I had an awesome time meeting up with the lovely Valerie in DC. We went to Shophouse (the Asian version of Chipotle – I really hope it takes off!), then headed to Paper Source, where, predictably, I went beserk on letterpress cards. Then we headed to Lululemon. I restrained myself but there were at least 3 things I could have bought. All in all a great morning/early afternoon – always wonderful to catch up with good friends. ๐
– Finally, look who arrived just in time to help me with the holiday baking! Heeee!
When he's not helping me in the kitchen, Cookie Chef Babo will be serving as the head chef at the Museum's cafe/patisserie. ๐
Teehee, I celebrated my b-day this week! While I'm not happy at all about getting older, I do enjoy my birthday as it's the one day a year I give myself total permission to do whatever the hell I feel like doing (or not doing.) Here are a couple links, followed by some of the highlights from my b-day.
– Vampy Varnish brings us MUFE's Highline palette. Would make a nice piece for a NYC-themed exhibition. ๐
– My very sweet husband surprised me with a gorgeous new bag! I have dubbed her Rosie, in honor of her rose gold hardware.
– I took the day off from work for my b-day and made as many treats as my little heart desired. This, of course, attracted various Museum staff. First I made champagne cupcakes:
And then peanut butter cookie cups:
And made the custard for cake batter ice cream with buttercream frosting swirled throughout. It was quite a day!
Oh my! The Museum is being overrun by some new, Halloween-appropriate plushies. First we have this little ghost haunting us (technically he is known as Ice Lodge Babo but he looks more like a ghost to me):
And we also acquired a rather devilish looking winged Babo with crazy different colored eyes!
He is signed by his creator.
Here he is, dreaming of cookies:
So there are my new Museum staff members, just in time for trick-or-treating. I have to think about what their jobs will be. ๐
Here's this week's round-up. Maybe I'm feeling especially hungry this week but I was finding a lot of food-related posts to be quite interesting.
- Happy Birthday to the tuxedo. (I'm still looking for a great tux blazer, and one that I can afford instead of the Balmain one I've been drooling over as of late.)
– Did you know it was National Pizza Month? Yay! Pizza is the Curator's favorite food, ever.
– Hilarious would-be celebrity chef fragrances (in twoparts!), brought to you by Eden Eats Everything.
– I think I'd give my right arm to attend this conference.
– The eternal question from Jezebel.com: Are you a cook or a baker? Me, definitely a baker. I can't cook actual food, I'm strictly a dessert maker.
– Lastly, I wanted to share this pic. After a pretty crappy week I came home to this:
What's better than a gaggle of Babos and a beautiful bouquet of fresh fall flowers to cheer someone up? I don't know and I don't want to know. A big thanks to my husband for making me feel better. ๐
Have a great weekend!
Rain, rain go away!! Seriously, it has to stop raining. I don't think I've seen the sun in almost two weeks and it's killing me. :( Oh sure, it peeked out for maybe 5 minutes on Thursday and a little yesterday, but that was it. Anyway, there were some good things this week so let's get to it.
– I want to see this De Kooning exhibition. Hopefully I'll make it before it closes.
– A documentary on one of my heros, Kathleen Hanna, is in production! I always thought someone should make an awesome movie about her! But more moolah is needed to see it through. Please please please help out at Kickstarter.
– So the biggest pinball museum in the country opened here in B'more. Really? REALLY? How did this guy manage to get his niche museum off the ground when I can't open mine? No fair. *headdesk*
– I think I might die from the cuteness of this blog. Why I didn't know about it a while ago is beyond me. Ahoy!
– In other Uglydoll news, it has come to my attention that two new Babsters have been created. One is Cookie Chef Babo (only available through a store rebate) and a special edition Cookie Dream Babo, who is red with grey wings!! I DIE.

Special red Cookie Dream Babo (since he's red and seems to have different colored eyes, my husband is calling him Demon Psycho Babo, which I don't think is very nice. Babos are sweet innocent little creatures.)

So my latest endeavor, naturally, is to obtain both. They will be so happy to meet the rest of their webby-pawed family here.
