Happy weekend and happy fall! And once again I've outdone myself. This time I'm blaming Instagram – everything just looks so pretty I simply have to buy it. Here's what I'm wearing this season.
Speaking of Instagram, nearly everything in the photo above has been featured on my account so you can check it out there (also, right now I'm at 99 followers – won't you help me get to 100?!) I've included links to the pics below. 🙂
The full loot list:
Whew! Here are a couple things that I haven't shown previously.

Lipstick Queen Eden, Guerlain Fancy Kiss and Dolce & Gabbana Orange:
The weird lipsticks I'll probably be too chicken to wear:
The glosses:
Cheek stuff and another By Terry lip balm…I loved the ones I got in my spring haul so much I had to get more!
And some eye stuff:
Chantecaille released 4 cream shadows they were calling Mermaid Eye Color, so naturally I had to get a couple. And I can never resist a pretty mint green.
The colors are so gorgeous in this Jouer palette but once again the name is what really motivated me to buy it. 😉
I can honestly say I've been wearing the hell out of everything and loving it, except for the Jouer palette (which just arrived yesterday) and the crazy colored lipsticks…but I hope to get the courage to test them out soon.
What did you haul this summer? Any questions about what you've seen here? As always I'm too lazy to do full reviews and the Makeup Museum isn't really that kind of beauty blog anyway, but I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments or you can email me. 🙂

Did a quite a bit of damage this season! Here's my haul and some very brief thoughts.
From left to right (roughly):
By Terry Stencil foundation brush (love), Tom Ford Opale cream eye shadow (pretty color but doesn't hold up as well as some of my other cream shadows), By Terry Baume de Rose (love), Laura Mercier Oil-Free Silk Creme foundation (love), NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint (love), NARS Tarvos eye shadow (like it but way more metallic than I was expecting), Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Punked (haven't tried), Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Spritzer (like but it's very purple – I ordered sight unseen and thought it would be more pale lavender), Becca Snapdragon blush (love), Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Shipshape (love – goes great with Bobbi Brown Nectar shimmerbrick), MAC Cool and Cute Huggable lip gloss (love), MAC blushes in What I Fancy and Spring Flock (love both), Benefit Lash Primer (love), UD Naked Skin Color Corrector (eh), YSL Touche Eclat Neutralizer (didn't like – too liquidy), MAC Goodness Gracious Plushglass (love), Smith & Cult lip gloss in Flesh Riot (love), Sachajuan Ocean Mist (haven't used it enough to evaluate), Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal (love), Sephora Pantone Universe lipstick in Serenity (haven't tried), Hourglass Strobe powder in Incandescent (eh), R & Co. Aircraft Pomade Mousse (love), Anastasia Dip Down Brow Pomade (soooo pigmented), Artis Oval Brush #6 (love), Bumble & Bumble Surf Foam Spray (haven't tried), Guerlain lip gloss in Nahema Smack (love), Chanel Glossimer in Pinctada (love).
Some close-up pics. Sabrina at the Beauty Look Book made these By Terry Baume de Rose in Coral Stellar and Mauve Moon look so good I just had to get both. I was not disappointed either – these are pricey but seriously the best tinted lip balms I've ever tried (even better than my beloved Fresh Sugar balms.)
I seem to have a violet and coral thing going this year. Here's the Bite lipstick in Spritzer and Chanel Shipshape.
Here are the two crazy-colored lipsticks I probably will never actually wear.
The lip glosses:
I can't resist mint green for spring, so NARS Tarvos was a must.
Strangely I didn't get any new bath and body or nail stuff. Weird.
So that was my haul! What did you get this spring and what are you loving/not loving?
In looking at this picture of my holiday beauty haul I realized it's very lip product heavy – only a scant 3 eye products and an eyeliner brush made it in. The rest of the color items are all lip stuff. There's a lot of Shu given that they had a nice 25% off friends and family sale a little while ago. So far I have tried out a few things. I'm completely in love LUSH Peeping Santa bubble bars (top right) since it's identical to my favorite LUSH product of all time, Magic Mushrooms. Needless to say I'm hoarding about 20 of them! I also tried out the Elemis dry brush (lower right) this morning and I swear my skin is smoother already.
Here are the lipsticks. From left to right: Estée Lauder Shameless Violet (still on my fall purple lip kick), Bobbi Brown Red Velvet and Retro Red Luxe Lipsticks (I loved my Parisian Red so much I had to get more of this formula, as it's seriously amazing! Long-lasting with no feathering and stays comfortable all day – no drying out my lips), Bobbi Brown Lady Ruba (I'm also on a hot fiery orange-red kick. The formula this comes in isn't as good as the Luxe one but it's a beautiful color), Shu Avenue Sunset Rouge Unlimited lipstick, Tom Ford lipsticks in Hiro and Demsey, and Shu CR 310 Rouge Unlimited.
Chanel Complice eye shadow (can't wait to see how it compares to my go-to all-over eye shadow wash, Stila Kitten) and Stila Smokey Quartz cushion liner.
Now that I've taken photos, I have to get to trying out everything!
What did you haul for the holiday season? Anything you're loving?
I feel like I didn't do quite as much damage as usual this season. I had a sizable haul to be sure, but I don't think it was quite as outrageous as some others. At least, that's what I'm telling myself. Anyway, I haven't tested out everything but the things I have tried I'm greatly enjoying.
Currently I'm wearing Essie In the Lobby (plum creme) on my toes and Chanel Fortissimo on my fingers. Fortissimo is Chanel Blue Satin's slightly lighter sister – it doesn't read nearly as dark as Blue Satin, which looks almost black, but the subtle metallic shimmer is the same in both. I am incredibly impressed with Benefit's Air Patrol, which may be the product that finally lures me away from my trusty Urban Decay Primer Potion. Air Patrol does a better job covering up the significant discoloration of my eyelids, and I feel like my shadow actually goes on a little more smoothly. MAC's 196 brush is performing well too. I'm not sure whether I like it more than Shiseido's or Dior's foundation brushes – I feel like I have to use a lot more pressure with the 196 to get my foundation to be seamless – but it's definitely better than many foundation brushes I've tried. The only product I'm having trouble with so far is the Estée Lauder Little Black Liner, but honestly, it's probably due to user error, i.e. so-called "foolproof" liquid eyeliners are still no match for my clumsy hands. I also suspect my eye shape simply doesn't lend itself to cat eyes, which is a shame as I love that look.
Here's a closer look at MAC Guo Pei fluidline in Palm Tree, which I haven't gotten around to trying, and NARS Pasiphae eye shadow. I did play with it last week and it's amazing – very soft and pigmented with a subtle duochrome effect.
And I just realized I totally spaced on including this quad in the main haul pic, but of course I had to pick up Chanel's Tisse D'Automne since I cannot resist greens in the fall. I also have yet to try the shimmery mascara top coat in Jazzy Blue that I purchased, but I bet it's good. I loved Bronze Platine from Chanel's holiday 2013 collection so I'm guessing this will be equally fun.
And now for the lip products. Left to right: Bobbi Brown Parisian Red, MAC Self-Aware, Marc Jacobs Anais, Lipstick Queen Stella, and Fresh Sugar Balm in Fig. I haven't tried any of these except for Stella, and I love it. I don't know why but violet lips are my obsession this fall (in addition to my usual green shadow obsession). Stella hits the mark in that it's not too dark and surprisingly not weird/costume-y. It's bold but wearable. I have a feeling I will be picking up more violet shades to compare.
Another shot in different order: Fresh Fig, Lipstick Queen Stella, Bobbi Brown Parisian Red, Marc Jacobs Anais, and MAC Self-Aware.
Sadly I seemed to have lost the MAC Guo Pei Cremesheen lip gloss in Bright Pink Bouquet. I have turned my place upside down looking for it. I guess it's a clear sign that I have too much makeup. Who am I kidding, you can never have too much! I just need to be more organized. 🙂
What did you haul this season? Any new loves or duds?
I outdid myself yet again this season, oops. Most of the damage was done online, but the husband and I took a trip up to NYC to escape what was going to be a very noisy 4th of July weekend in our neighborhood, and I bought some more things there.
It was so nice to play at the Armani counter since the closest one to us is in Virginia and I never get a chance to see anything in person. I got an eye tint (#12, a very nice neutral) and Fluid Sheers in 5 and 6. I have no idea why but I didn't realize there were some pigmented Fluid Sheers that could be used as blushes – I thought they were only highlighters. I also picked up a Troy Surratt powder brush and it's seriously the softest brush I've ever had. I thought Trish McEvoy had soft brushes but this one blows them away. I now want the blush brush too. I got the powder brush and the Armani stuff at Barney's. The Armani counter manager there, Judy, was super nice and gave me a ton of samples. I was really shocked as it's the first time I've had a non-pushy sales person at the beauty department at Barney's – usually they're incredibly aggressive, but Judy was great. So keep that in mind if you're in the vicinity. 🙂
I am loving all of my new blushes. Clockwise from top left: Hourglass Incandescent Electra, Bobbi Brown Sunset Pink shimmerbrick, Tom Ford Pink Sand, Stila Shimmering Lotus, and NARS Silent Nude. The Armani Fluid Sheers are excellent too.
Here's the lip stuff. Clockwise from top: Tom Ford Skinny Dip (goes beautifully with the Pink Sand blush), Clinique Melon Pop, MAC Tumble Dry, Becca Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé in Watermelon/Opal (love this with the Stila Shimmering Lotus) MAC Fashion Force, and Lancôme Shine Lover #140 Corail Lover. Overall I'm pleased with these, but not wild about MAC Fashion Force and the Lancôme Corail Lover. They looked very different when I swatched them in store. When I got them home, they were just meh.
I was over the moon when I saw that Bobbi Brown was re-releasing some old gel eye liner shades. Bronze Shimmer remains one of my top 5 favorite liners ever. I also picked up a replacement for my old Ivy Shimmer, which was pretty dried out, and Gunmetal, which I didn't own previously.
Obviously I couldn't resist Tom Ford Midnight Sea either!
Oddly enough, the new Ivy Shimmer looks considerably darker than the original version. I'll have to swatch them to see if there's a noticeable difference.
We were wandering about Soho when I spotted & Other Stories, which I had heard of previously but had totally forgotten that there was a location in New York.
I love Philosophy's Iced Mint Lemonade – it's not overly citrusy, minty or sweet, just a perfect mild lemon scent. I actually picked up a second tub of the body butter! I went a bit crazy at & Other Stories, they had tons of really lovely scents but I limited myself to Punk Bouquet (very unique and of course I fell for the name) and Lemon Daydream, which reminds me a little of Fresh Hesperides.
And now for some non-makeup goodies. Another Barney's find was this shell necklace on a massive sale – so perfectly mermaidy! Sailor Babo insisted on modeling it.
Then we went to the Anthropologie store in Soho. We have several Anthro stores in Baltimore but the one in Soho is much bigger than the ones around here, so I thought I'd take a look around. When I saw this shirt I knew I couldn't leave the store without it! I mean, really, is there anything more perfect for a beauty junkie? It fits me well but obviously it looks way better on Seasick Sailor Babo.
They look very pleased with themselves, no?
What did you haul this summer? And if you have any questions about specific products I mentioned in this post, leave them in the comments…I know I didn't do in-depth reviews but I have tried everything out so I can provide additional info. 🙂
I've already starting purchasing items from the summer collections (hello, Tom Ford!) but I figured I'd share my spring haul anyway. This is in addition to the Kiko goodies I got in Rome.
I am loving these Clinique Cheek Pops – very subtle and pretty shades with a lovely satin finish.
Looks like I got all lipsticks, no gloss, which is slightly unusual for me as I'm more of a gloss girl. From left to right: Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Sensation, Fresh Sugar Balm in Nude, Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color in Hollywood Red, and Rouge Bunny Rouge Succulence of Dew lipstick in Fluttering Sighs – such a gorgeous golden pink. I blame Belly at Wondegondigo for me buying the Rouge Bunny Rouge, as her swatches of some of the other shades looked too delectable to pass up.
Eye goodies include NARS Valhalla eye shadow (gorgeous glowy peach), Sephora Colorful Duo Reflects in Mermaid Tail (because duh, I'm obsessed with mermaids), MAC Blue Peep fluidline (replacing the one I got when it was originally released – think it might be dried out by now) and Royal Wink fluidline. My stash is large but I couldn't believe I didn't have a bright royal blue/cobalt liner.
Finally, nails: Jin Soon x Tila March in Charme, Zoya Leslie and Daisy, and Butter London Kip.
As for the other stuff, I'm liking the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation but not as impressed with Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme. The finish isn't great and it tends to get cakey and fade by the end of the day. You can check out reviews of LUSH Yummy Mummy body conditioner and shower gel and Mother Superior bubble bar here. I admit I'm hoarding roughly 15 of the latter, they're that good!
What did you get for spring?
Late to the party because I was waiting for my Tom Ford Lips & Boys goodies to arrive, but here's what I hauled for the 2014 holiday season. I went overboard, of course, but not as bad as I usually do. :P I got 4 of the Tom Ford lipsticks, Bobbi Brown Black Scotch gel liner and MAC Dark Majesty gel liner, NARS Supervixen gloss and Gabon eye shadow, Rescue Beauty Lounge Bubblegum Punk, Nails Inc. Winter Mews (wore this with Essie Luxeffects Set in Stones just on the tips for New Year's and it was so much fun!), and Lippmann Gold Digger.
I just realized that I forgot to include the bath and body items I picked up, Philosophy Holiday Spice Rack 3 in 1 trio and LUSH Drummers Drumming bubble bars. Whoops.
What new additions to your stash did you make this holiday season?
I'm taking my quarterly break from writing about art and collectibles to show the makeup I'll be wearing this fall. 🙂 I also managed to snag the very popular Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Pecan Waffles 2 in 1, which is delicious.
Remember how I said I may try one of these new neutral palettes? Well, I did…in the form of Tom Ford's Nude Dip quad. As you can tell, despite this purchase I'm still loyal to greens which remain my favorite shade to wear in the fall.
Clockwise, starting from the top left: Tom Ford Nude Dip, NARS Jardin Perdu duo, Laura Mercier Satin Matte eye color in Tempting Green, Dior Pied-de-Poule quint, NARS Night Porter eye liner and MAC Water Willow Fluidline Eye Pencil, and Chanel Tisse Venitien. I wore this Chanel quad with Water Willow and it was so pretty!
I also picked up NARS Unlawful blush, Armani nail polish #214 (the box says it's called Incense Velvet but I've seen it referred to on other blogs as Woodstone – go figure), Chanel Rouge Noir (been wanting this for a while!) and Orage, Llarowe Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (also been wanting the long-gone Essie Starry Starry Night and found the Llarowe was a good dupe), and some new shades from an indie brand called Contrary Polish. You can see swatches of those here.
As for lips, I'm going very vampy this year. I did pick up one caramelly/neutral that will pair nicely with smoky eyes. I actually tried it out for a more neutral look (trying!) with the Tom Ford quad.
From left: MAC Hearts Aflame, NARS Bette, MAC Lingering Kiss (not sure what I was thinking when I bought this – it's super opaque and showed up way too dark next to my pasty skin…I looked much too goth!), Chanel Aura, and Armani Rouge d'Armani Sheer #114.
So that's what I hauled this fall. What did you get?
I was a bad girl this summer! The damage includes two Ciaté shell manicures (a must-have for the mermaid-obsessed), Fresh Sugar Tulip lip balm, YSL Kiss & Blush in #7 Coral Affranchi, Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen lipstick (loving this!), NARS Lost Coast and Tropical Princess duos, NARS Malacca eye shadow and Baalbek eye paint, MAC Legendary Lure eye shadow from the Alluring Aquatic collection, Chanel Mirage Illusion d'Ombre, and Philly Loves Lacquer nail polishes in On the Way to Cape May and Wildwoods by the Sea – couldn't resist the NJ-shore themed names!
(Note: You might know I've dreamed of starting another blog that would be a more traditional beauty blog with product reviews and swatches. Since I can't even keep up with the Museum regularly I know this isn't a good idea, so I thought I'd work in some very quick, not-very-detailed reviews when I do my haul posts which you may or may not find helpful. Please feel free to email me or ask questions about particular products in the comments section.)
The quality of all the NARS stuff is impeccable. The shadows are pigmented and silky and though they look like odd colors they look beautiful on the lids. Plus you can mix and match – earlier this week I paired the pewter shade from Lost Coast with Malacca and lined with Baalbek and it looked fabulous. Chanel Mirage is lovely for summer. It's a bit warmer and less glittery than Initiation, which is the bronze Illusion d'Ombre Chanel released for their holiday 2013 collection. I'm impressed with the longevity of the YSL Kiss & Blush as it doesn't budge on cheeks or lips. As for MAC's Legendary Lure shadow, it's a dark and mysterious shade. I wear it on the outer corner of my lids with a lighter greenish-blue over the whole lid (I call it my "evil mermaid" look.) Like the NARS shadows, it's very silky and applies wonderfully wet or dry. I want more of these shadows.
I loved the Ciaté shells, although they're incredibly impractical – the rough texture snags on everything. I just did my ring finger with them too, I can't imagine having shells on every digit. But I do feel appropriately mermaid-esque when I wear them.
Then there were some other things I gathered later on: Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes in Will They Won't They, Not Your Baby and Instant Amnesia from the Anatomy of a K-drama collection, Lorac Pore-Fection foundation (not loving it), Perricone No Mascara Mascara, MAC Black Ivy Fluidline from the Moody Blooms collection, Becca Shimmer Souffle in Lychee/Opal, LUSH Mangnificent soap and D'Fluff shaving cream (both are delish), and some stuff from R & Co., whose packaging I had been coveting for months. I walked into my salon for a cut and lo and behold they had just started carrying it!
Truth be told, I'm saving Not Your Baby and Instant Amnesia for fall and Will They Won't They for next spring because I'm weird that way. Certain colors strike me as belonging in particular seasons so sometimes I'll buy things and save them for when the weather seems right for the color. The Perricone mascara is fabulous – very subtle and it's perfect for days when I just need a little something extra. My lashes are long thanks to Latisse, but some days I still look tired so it's good to have a product that isn't overly dramatic but is enough to help my eyes look more awake. It doesn't smudge, flake or irritate my sensitive, contact-wearing eyes, and comes off easily and completely with cleansing oil. As for R & Co., the Gemstone shampoo is nice but I feel like I have to use a lot to get my hair squeaky clean, while the Rockaway is comparable to other salt sprays I've tried. I'll probably stick with Bumble and Bumble Color-Minded shampoo and Surf Spray or Davines Sea Salt Spray. The whole line is vegetarian and gluten-free though, so that's where these products differ from Bumble and Bumble. The jury is still out on the Dallas thickening spray. I've been using it regularly so now I want to stop using it and see if it makes a noticeable difference (if it has made a difference I haven't noticed.)
What did you haul this summer? Any hits or misses?
